The fish survey was conducted on Jamaica's north coast at Sailor Hole, a fishing beach in the resort town of Ocho Rios in the parish of St. Ann, under the Coastal Water Quality Improvement Project (CWIP) in collaboration with the NGO “Friends of the Sea” (FOTS) and UWI’s Discovery Bay Marine Laboratory (DBML).

The purpose of this short study was to gather data that would inform the Management Plan for the Ocho Rios Marine Park (ORMP) with respect to the nature and value of the fishery within the area of the park, and the locations of the main fishing activity. Attention is directed towards indicators of over-fishing, such as mean fish size and the composition of the catch. The relative efficiencies of different gears and catches from different fishing grounds are also highlighted.
